Vote-By-Mail, it just got easier!

The convenience of voting by mail just got easier. One request is required to vote in one or all elections through two general elections law allows you to make one request and receive ballots for all elections through the next regularly scheduled General Election.  A ballot will be mailed each election between the 35th and 28th day before the election and you may vote your ballot at your leisure - in the comfort of your home- and return it by mail or hand deliver, no later than 7:00 pm on Election Day.  To take advantage of this opportunity and have your ballot mailed to your residence address, click here to log on to the Free Access System.  Once authenticated as a registered voter in St. Lucie County, you can request a vote-by-mail ballot. If the ballot is requested to be mailed to an address other than the elector's address on file in the Florida Voter Registration System, the request must be made in writing and signed by the elector.  Click here to download a form to make this request.

REQUESTING A VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT

Vote-By-Mail request may be made by the voter, the voter’s family or legal guardian.  Family members include the voter’s spouse, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild and sibling.

A request for a vote-by-mail ballot to be mailed, must be received by the Supervisor of Elections office no later than 5:00 p.m. on the sixth day before the election. Vote-By-Mail Ballots cannot be forwarded. If the Mail-ballot is requested to be mailed to an address other than the elector's address on file in the Florida Voter Registration System, the request must be made in writing and signed by the elector.

A vote-by-mail ballot request must include:

The name of the voter, the address to which the ballot is to be mailed, date of birth, and, if it is a written request, the signature of the voter is also required.  If the Vote-By-Mail ballot is requested by anyone other than the voter, it must also contain the name, address, driver’s license number if available, of the person making the request on behalf of the voter, and must indicate the relationship to the voter.  Vote-By-Mail Ballots are available approximately 35– 28 days prior to Election Day.

VOTE-BY-MAIL-BALLOT PICKUP

A voter may ask another person to pick up a Mail-ballot on their behalf up to 5 days prior to the day of the election.  The person designated may not pick up more than two Mail-ballots per election, other than the designee’s own ballot, except that additional ballots may be picked up for members of the designee’s immediate family.

Someone who is picking up a Mail-Ballot for another person must have a signed request from the voter.  The request must include the name of the voter for whom the ballot is requested, the address of the voter and the voter’s date of birth. The written request must also include, the name of the person (designee) picking up the ballot and relationship to the voter.

VOTING THE BALLOT

The voter must personally vote the ballot (unless assistance is required due to blindness, disability or inability to read or write).  The voter must sign, date and return the Voter’s Certificate envelope.  If the voter can not sign his or her name, he or she must place their “mark” or an “X” in the signature box.  A power of attorney signature is not valid on an mail-ballot.

VOTING IN PERSON AFTER REQUESTING A BALLOT

If you have obtained a Mail-ballot but wish to vote in your precinct on election day, you must take the voted or un-voted Mail-ballot with you to the polls so that it can be cancelled.  However, if you are unable to return the ballot, you may be asked to vote a provisional ballot.

RETURNING YOUR MAIL-BALLOT

Vote-By-Mail-ballots to be counted must be received at the Supervisor of Elections Office no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.  A VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT CAN NOT BE RETURNED TO A POLLING PLACE.  Be sure there is sufficient postage if the ballot is mailed.
